Making God Your First Love
By Anita Norris

"And the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and he became a living soul" (Genesis 2:7).

When God created Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, there was no sin in the world and they were in the perfect will of God. But, one thing you'll notice is that God did not create both of them at the same time. Why was this? God wanted to build a relationship with Adam before Eve came into the picture.

Likewise, God never intended for you to fall in love with some person before you first fall in love with Him. God wants to perfect you and place you in a position where you'll not only be able to receive your mate, but keep your mate. If you are not able to fellowship with a perfect God, then an imperfect human being doesn't have a chance.

It takes time and communication to develop a good relationship. For example, when you meet someone for the first time, you're not going to let him or her drive your car or give them the keys to your house. Why? You haven't developed that kind of relationship with them yet. You don't even know if you can trust them.

A lot of people have trouble trusting in God, because they haven't gotten past the initial introduction. They just say, "Lord you are Jehovah. I am your child. You want me to be rich. Thank you, see you later."

They never took the time to develop a relationship with God. The time you take to become best friends with someone is very valuable. But, people don't spend that quality time with God. Instead, they instantly want to jump into the marriage thing.

It's important to fellowship with God so that you can be able to hear from Him for yourself. He has a purpose for you, which He has planned from the foundations of the earth. You can walk into it if you make God your first love.

I encourage you to read Matthew 6:33, I Corinthians 7:32, and Psalm 37:4.
