Porter Ministry By Pastor Pete Norris |

Genesis 2:8 – “And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.” God made Adam the first human porter. His primary responsibility was over the Garden of Eden. The word planted translated in the Hebrew means “to fasten or strike in, like a stake hammered firmly into the ground.” The word garden refers to “a fenced garden” and is from the word ganan which means “to hedge about, to protect and defend.” Adam was to keep the place and to defend it. He was the first porter. The word eastward translated indicates “the front of a place.” It is from the Hebrew word “to precede, anticipate, hasten and prevent.” Adam’s responsibility as a porter was to meet or confront, oppose and disappoint anything or anyone who would come against the garden, it’s contents, or its inhabitants. The garden was supposed to be a protected place, and Adam was charged with protecting it. The word Eden is translated as “a pleasure, delicate, delight or pleasant.” Eden was supposed to be a place of voluptuous living, a house of pleasure, producing delight for Adam and his descendants. The Hebrew word for placed means “appointed, ordained, and charged with certain duties.” These duties were twofold. Genesis 2:15 – “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” The first duty of Adam was to dress the garden or to work it. This included service, serving, and laboring as a husbandman. It also implies “to be enslaved, set a work, be a worshipper.” The Hebrew word put means “to deposit.” God specifically seized and accepted Adam to set him in the garden. Adam was the set man for the garden of Eden. God wanted Adam to be the first-fold minister in all five areas, which are governing, guiding, grounding, guarding, and gathering or replenishing, but Adam didn’t reach maturity. Governing – Apostle Guiding – Prophet Grounding – Teacher Guarding – Pastor Gathering – Evangelist Adam’s second duty was to keep the garden and be it’s porter. Adam was to hedge about it, guard, protect and attend to it. The Hebrew word for keep means “to take heed to self, to save, to preserve.” This was a commission given to Adam, and an important one. He was to be the watchman over the garden and to open and close the door to whoever wanted to come in. Adam failed in his commission. Through his lack of proper porterage, the serpent was able to beguile him and to gain entrance. Satan bypassed the porter Adam and went directly to the woman, bypassing God’s order. I Corinthians 11:3 – “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.” The Father is the head of Jesus. Jesus is the head of the man, and the man is the head of his wife and household. This is clearly outlined by the Apostle Paul in his writings to the Corinthians. Since every level of headship must earn respect, not demand it by force, more responsibility rests on the man to earn the respect of his woman than on the woman to submit to the headship of her man. You are not biblically the head until you qualify. I would like for you to do a study on the responsibilities of a man in connection to our responsibilities as husband, dad, and spiritual head. I have done a teaching on the porter of our house. We better wake up, men, and take our place of authority with God. I will continue next month with more teaching on the porter ministry Questions or Comments regarding this site??
