You Are Anointed By Pastor Pete Norris

We know that Jesus had the Spirit of God because Luke 3:21-22 said that the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus in the form of a Dove, after he was baptized in the Jordan River.

Now, I want you to realize this was not a dove in form of a dove, in other words the Holy Spirit. In Chapter 4, we see that Jesus returned from the Jordan, full of the Holy Ghost (v 1). Then after Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, the Bible says that He returned to Galilee "in the power of the Spirit" (v 14). Now I would like to continue reading from:

Luke 4:16-19.And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom, was he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered upon him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Jesus said in verse 18, "the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me...". And the same Holy Spirit is anointing people today!

If you have the Holy Spirit within you, you can say just as Jesus said, "He hath anointed me." Why? Because with the Spirit of God comes the power of his anointing. Have you ever noticed in the Scriptures that there is a connection between "power" and "the Spirit of God"? For example, look at:

Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

In this verse the Lord said that his work would not be accomplished through the might or power of man but by the power of the Spirit of God. This coincides with what the prophet Isaiah said in:

Isaiah 10: 27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

Look at this, the burden could not be removed by carnal might. No, the burden would be removed and the yoke destroyed because of the power or the anointing of the Spirit of God. I want you to look at a key word that the Scripture does not say, the anointing breaks the yoke, it says destroys the yoke.

If you break something it can be fixed, if you destroy it then it can not be fixed. this is what the anointing does. Jesus said, "the Spirit of God is upon me, and He has anointed me.". So if you are full of the Spirit of God, you have power too. To often people think, well the people in the five fold ministry are anointed. And that is true. There is a special anointing that comes upon those called to the five fold ministry which separates them unto a certain ministry and enables them to stand in a particular office. But you need to realize that you are anointed too.

II Corinthians 1:21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

I John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

You see, if you are in Christ, God has anointed you. You have an unction from the Holy One, and that unction or anointed abides in you. This same word translated "unction" just quoted in I John 2:20 is the same word translated "anointing" later in verse 27.

I John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you; but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Remember, in the Old Testament the anointing only abided upon the Prophet, Priest, or King. But after the resurrection of Jesus and the Day of Pentecost, the anointing of the Holy Spirit came to abide within everyone who believes. Are you a believer? Then the anointing is within you, glory to God. Walk in that anointing.
