Unity
By Pastor Pete Norris

I am feeling a strong drawing in the direction of unity with pastors and saints. God is not calling the saints to unity, without first calling the leaders to unity. Amos 3:3 – “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

Matthew 18:19 – “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” The word “agree” in the Greek comes from the word “sun” meaning “union, with or together.” This scripture is saying that if any two are in union on earth, then what they ask shall be done on earth.

In Luke 10:1-2, Jesus sent out the seventy disciples. There was a divine wisdom governing their movement. The disciples were not traveling randomly about Israel. Rather, they were specially sent to the cities where Jesus would soon visit. The disciples’ authority was not independent from obedience to Christ, but because of it. The disciples could not rule or use their spiritual authority against the enemy the way Christians attempt to bind principalities today. The disciples were united together under Jesus. He issued the commands, and gave them authority in context with the commands.

Matthew 10:25 – “And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.” The Greek word “divided” means “division or two visions.” The first position for the church should be unity. All Israel was required to come to Jerusalem three times a year to worship at the feasts. If their worship was compromised, and they were serving the pagan god of the region, they could not stand in battle. However, in addition to unity in worship, they also had to be united in war time. Unless they faced the battle as one man, their victory was rarely assured. Judges 6:16, Judges 20:1,8 & 11, I Samuel 11:7, and Ezra 3:1 prove that we, as a body, must worship as one man and also fight as one man.

In Numbers 32:16-17, the tribes of Reuben and Gad had much livestock, and asked for their inheritance to be given first, as the land on which they stood was suitable for grazing. But their request angered Moses because he thought that they wanted to divide from the other nations for their own individual inheritance. But, we must also be armed and ready to war on behalf of our brother. In Numbers 32:18, Reuben and Gad said they would not return unto their houses until the children of Israel had inherited every man his inheritance.

What would happen if the churches and pastors would not stop worshipping and warring together until every brother received his inheritance? I am believing for this to happen together.
