She began in 1974 when she found infant twins living on a garbage dump with their terminally ill mother, who had been evicted from her little hut because she could not pay the $3.00 per month rent. The mother signed her babies over to Eleanor Workman before she died, and the orphanage ministry was born.
With God's help, Mom Workman acquired land, built a building and her family of orphans grew rapidly. Now, the ministry of Christian Haitian Outreach has founded two orphanages which over 170 children call home, and two schools where a staff of teachers is educating over 1,060 students in the ways of God. In addition, CHO ministers to 125 pastors working in the mountain villages and remote areas of Haiti by providing training seminars.
CHO's ministry came into being because Eleanor Workman, a choir director and active church worker with successful career, heard the call to full-time missions work. She answered the call by laying aside her own ambitions and dedicating her life to service to the needy children in Haiti. She has seen countless miracles of supply and divine intervention. Even at 80+ years of age, her life and ministry continues to inspire others to totally commit themselves to God and see His purposes fulfilled in their lives.
HAITI:
Haiti is populated with almost 8 million people in a land area the size of Maryland. Located in the West Indies, the country is the poorest and one of the most densely populated in the Western Hemisphere.
Most Haitian citizens are descendants of Africa brought to Haiti as slaves to the French. Creole is the commonly spoken language, along with French which is the country's official language.
Mariani is located right outside of the country's capital, Port-au-Prince. CHO's grounds in Mariani are only a couple minutes walk away from the local Caribbean beach. CHO's Jeremie ministry is a 15 hour drive over the mountains from Mariani. The much more rural Jeremie campus is placed in between the mountains and the coastline.
The people in Haiti are in need of relief, development and spiritual training. Eleanor "Mom" Workman began her work in Haiti over 30 years ago. What she started is now known as the Christian Haitian Outreach.
YOU CAN HELP. ... meet the financial needs of the Christian Haitian Outreach by placing money marked for CHO in your Church Offering or you can give directly to the address below.
